There reportedly seems to be the growing belief that an offer from Manchester City for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips is coming.
The England international has been a stand-out performer at Elland Road in recent times, and also played a key role in Gareth Southgate’s side’s run to the final of Euro 2020 last summer.
A report from Football Insider yesterday claimed that a bid had already been made, so perhaps things are already moving along quicker than has been let on.
It makes sense that a big move could now be on the cards for Phillips, with The Athletic today suggesting an offer might not be far away now.
The Athletic’s report says that: “City visualise a closing agreement of between £45 million and £50 million and there is confidence in Manchester that Phillips would push to take up the opportunity to join them if it’s presented.
“City would tick the right boxes. It’s a move Phillips would be open to, and a move Leeds would struggle to resist.”
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
“£45M – £50M? Are you serious? Just because he’s English, otherwise you shouldn’t even pay £30M.”
