Pep Guardiola has spoken to the media for the first time since Cristiano Ronaldo ’s transfer to Manchester United was confirmed.
Manchester City looked set to seal a sensational transfer for Ronaldo, but United figures swooped in at the last minute to persuade him to return to Old Trafford after 12 years.
Ronaldo agreed to return to United on a two-year contract after Manchester United struck a deal to buy him from Juventus.
Man United agreed to pay Juventus an initial £12.85million (€15m) with another £6.86m (€8m) in add-ons for the 36-year-old forward.
At his pre-match conference for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Arsenal, before City decided to pull out of the deal for Ronaldo, Guardiola paid tribute to Ronaldo, calling him one of the few players on the planet with the luxury of choosing where he plays his football.
Ahead of Man City’s Premier League clash against Arsenal on Saturday, Guardiola surprisingly suggested it was ‘good news’ to see Ronaldo return to England.
He told BT Sport: “I don’t think frustrated is the right word.
“We have an exceptional squad, and we have improved to have the best possible team to compete.
“It’s good that a player like Cristiano Ronaldo is back in England for the Premier League and it’s good news.”
These Guardiola’s comments on has prompt Plenty of Sky Blues to react on social media.
