Football Insider sources have reported that Manchester City are prepared to end Josh Wilson-Esbrand’s loan deal so that he can join Cardiff City. The Welsh club is currently engaged in discussions with City about signing the 21-year-old defender, with only a few hours left until the transfer deadline.

Wilson-Esbrand is currently on loan at Ligue 1 club Reims, but City is ready to cut his loan short in order to secure a deal with Cardiff today. Despite joining Reims on a season-long loan in the summer, the London-born defender has struggled to secure regular first-team football. He has made 13 appearances across all competitions and scored once for Reims, but has found it challenging to secure a permanent position at the club.

Before his time at Reims, Wilson-Esbrand spent the second half of the 2022-23 season on loan at Championship side Coventry City, where he made 14 appearances and contributed to the team securing a place in the Championship play-offs. If he departs from City, he will do so having made three appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side, including two in the Champions League last season.

In other news, Kieran Maguire has criticized Premier League chief Richard Masters as Manchester City agree on a Financial Fair Play trial date. For more Manchester City and exclusive news, readers can follow Football Insider on Facebook or join their new WhatsApp channel for instant updates.
