Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Pep Guardiola’s side are involved in an eight-team race to land Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic.
Having missed out on a deal for Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane earlier this year, the Citizens are expected to spend big on a new centre-forward ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
With Pep Guardiola still in search for a natural number nine fit to be the successor to the legendary Sergio Aguero, Vlahovic has been regarded as a realistic alternative ahead of 2022.
Vlahovic has emerged as one of the most sought-after players in European football courtesy of a prolific 2021 which has seen him outscored by only Robert Lewandowski among top-flight leagues this calendar year.
The 21-year-old became only the second player – after Cristiano Ronaldo – since 1961 to score 33 Serie A goals in a calendar year during his most recent outing, and could break Ronaldo’s personal best tally when Fiorentina face Hellas Verona on Wednesday.
Vlahovic has just 18 months remaining on his current deal at Fiorentina and has already refused the most lucrative contract offer in the club’s history. The competition for his signature is likely to be fierce.
According to The Times, Manchester City, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and Arsenal are all interested in the forward, while Tottenham Hotspur reportedly “plan to renew their interest in the 21-year-old Serbia striker after failing to land him in the summer”.
It is reported that the striker would command a £77m transfer fee with Vlahovic demanding a weekly wage of £200,000.
Fiorentina are reportedly demanding up to €100m (£84.8m) to let Vlahovic leave in January, while the player is after wages of around £200,000 per week.
The Serbia international tops the Serie A scoring charts this season with 16 goals in just 18 appearances.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters, who took to the social media platform to share their thoughts and opinions.
Wouldn’t mind him but would much rather Kane and obvs Haaland https://t.co/HEtZML80ut

He suits the system way better than haaland and his more technical

If he has the choice and we want him, Surely that’s our next striker.. But god damn i want haaland in this team at any cost

If he rejected Arsenal a few times, why wouldn’t he reject Spurs at this stage? Also even if they do get him, surely that means we get Kane either way, which doesn’t sound very exciting but we know that was Pep’s preferred striker all along.
