Simon Jordan has denounced the recent criticism of Erling Haaland, branding it an absurd discussion to be questioning the Manchester City striker’s goalscoring ability.
Haaland, who scored last night against Brentford, has propelled City to sit just one point behind Liverpool in the Premier League table. It was his 17th Premier League goal of the season, putting him two goals clear of Mo Salah at the top of the scoring chart. However, some recent criticism of Haaland has bewildered many.
A plethora of squandered chances against Chelsea last weekend and an uninspiring performance against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League have led some to question Haaland’s goal-scoring prowess. But Jordan has come to his defense and slammed those criticizing him.
The 23-year-old’s impressive three goals since returning from injury earlier this month have not stopped some from doubting him online, especially after the Chelsea game. Yet, Jordan dismissed these doubts, stressing that Haaland’s goal-scoring record speaks for itself.
“Anyone that questions whether he’s losing his direction is a simpleton. The guy has scored more goals than anyone has scored in the Premier League from standing still and landing in the Premier League. I just think it’s a ridiculous conversation to be having.
“If Carlsberg made centre-forwards, it would be Erling Haaland!”
Criticism and questioning of Haaland have of late intensified. Even world-class strikers like City’s number nine can fall slightly below high standards they set. And recently, Haaland just hasn’t hit his mark.
Personal issues and injuries have also been playing a role in his performance, but all these factors do not seem to matter to rival fans awaiting an opportunity to criticize him.
Jordan’s comments on Haaland’s recent backlash have sparked a conversation about the intense focus and scrutiny that star footballers face.
It is important not to attribute struggles to personal shortcomings but to understand that even the best of players have their tough times.
Though there has been an unreasonable amount of criticism directed towards Haaland, undermining the young player’s capability is contradictory to the records he has set.
The recent conversation questioning his ability seems ridiculous considering all he has already achieved.
