Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has given an update on some of Manchester City’s transfer plans and Josko Gvardiol.
Gvardiol, who had a breakout World Cup tournament with Croatia last winter, is a highly-rated centre-back.
The 21-year-old defender is a key individual for German side RB Leizpig, who are in Champions League knockout action tonight against Manchester City.
He’s a left-footed centre-half who’s composed and technically skilful with the ball at his feet. Also, the youngster is strong, aggressive and quick with his defensive work out of possession.
According to Romano, Pep Guardiola’s side do have their eyes on a top-class centre-back in the shape of Josko Gvardiol.
The journalist shared what he knows about this situation.
“Keep an eye on defensive players, keep an eye also on Josko Gvardiol. Many top clubs are monitoring him including Chelsea, they wanted him last summer, also Manchester City and also Liverpool are monitoring the player, there is a lot of interest around Gvardiol,” Romano said.
“Leipzig want him to be the most expensive centre-back ever, Liverpool have sent their scouts to watch the player multiple times in the last months.”
What Man City fans are saying on this Josko Gvardiol transfer rumours
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
@NordicHaaland: “CB is one of the last positions we need. Splash the money on Jude, a winger, and a left back..”
@founded1894: “We don’t need him then..get us Jude, and a left back.”
@MCFC_Erik: “Him in Pep’s new system would be literally ideal.”
@MCFCnish: “The only player that can replace Laporte.”
@RahmanJagoo__: Would love to get Gvardiol but i can’t bear the thought of City losing Laporte 😭”
@mcfcharv: “Quality player + shouldn’t be going less than the current £80M record. But unless laporte and Ake/Akanji leave then i wouldn’t go in for him. Dias and Stones starts for me even if we had every cb in the world so no point spending £100M for a third or fourth place cb.”
