Manchester City fans have reacted angrily after Savinho claimed that he had always wanted to play for Tottenham, with supporters quickly reminding the Brazilian winger of what he said when he joined City.
The former Manchester City winger completed an £85 million move to Tottenham this month after a lengthy transfer saga. In his first interview with Spurs, Savinho spoke enthusiastically about his new club and explained that he had admired Tottenham whenever he played against them.

And judging by the reaction to a City Xtra post on X, many fans were far from impressed.
Man City fans accuse Savinho of changing his story
The biggest criticism from Manchester City supporters was not necessarily that Savinho chose Tottenham.
Instead, many fans were unhappy with the suggestion that he had always wanted to be at Tottenham, particularly because they remember his previous comments about joining Manchester City.
One supporter, Trey Ironside, brought up Savinho’s previous admiration for Riyad Mahrez and his comments about wearing the Algerian’s famous No. 26 shirt.
“He didn’t deserve to wear Mahrez’s number 26,” the fan wrote, before recalling Savinho’s previous claim that he had dreamed of playing for City.
The reaction received around 1,200 engagements, making it one of the most prominent responses to the discussion.
That is perhaps why the latest Tottenham comments have frustrated some City supporters so much.
For them, the issue is not simply that Savinho has moved on.
Footballers regularly change clubs. Players also have the right to be excited about their new teams.

That response offers an important alternative perspective.

That is significant because the comparison between Savinho and Doku has been a regular talking point among City fans.
Both are explosive wide players. Both offer dribbling ability and attacking unpredictability. Yet their development and performances have been judged very differently by supporters.
For fans who preferred Savinho, his move and the latest comments may now feel particularly uncomfortable.

Savinho, meanwhile, has started a completely different chapter at Tottenham.

If Savinho performs brilliantly, Tottenham fans will quickly forget the controversy surrounding his comments.
If he struggles, however, Manchester City supporters will inevitably return to the debate.
