Sam Allardyce has managed a variety of English clubs, with 35 of his 834 total games as a manager being against Manchester City. City has won 24 of those matches, drawn five, and lost six. Allardyce revealed his interest in signing Edin Dzeko from City in 2015 when he was at Sunderland or West Ham, but the player’s agent was unaware of his availability at the time. Dzeko had a successful spell at City, scoring 72 goals and providing 28 assists in 189 games before moving to Roma in 2015.
Since leaving City, Dzeko has continued to excel, scoring a total of 183 goals in 415 games for Roma, Inter Milan, and Fenerbahce. Allardyce’s interest in signing Dzeko showcases the striker’s quality and impact during his time at City, where he won two Premier League titles. The Bosnian striker’s successful career post-City highlights why Allardyce attempted to secure his services when City decided to sell him back in 2015.
