Manchester City’s perfect record in the Premier League came to an end as they drew 2-2 with Arsenal in a pulsating match at the Etihad Stadium. Erling Haaland put City ahead early, but Arsenal equalized controversially through Riccardo Calafiori. Gabriel then headed Arsenal in front, with John Stones rescuing a point for City in the dying minutes. Roy Keane criticized goalkeeper Ederson for not doing more to prevent the second Arsenal goal, blaming him for not being aggressive enough in his positioning.
Gabriel’s goal for Arsenal was avoidable, but Ederson was heavily surrounded by Arsenal players and couldn’t move to deal with the cross effectively. Keane’s criticism of Ederson feels slightly harsh, as Arsenal’s tactics are designed to take goalkeepers out of the equation and exploit set-piece opportunities. While there were defensive errors from City that could have been avoided, the overall result was a fair reflection of the game’s intensity and competitiveness between the two sides.
