Since July began, Rodri has been pleading for a break, but 11 Premier League players have been playing more for their club and country. Three of these players are from Arsenal. Rodri expressed his need for rest after a tough Champions League draw against Real Madrid in the quarter-finals. He mentioned that they are planning to give him some rest.
Interestingly, Rodri doesn’t even top the list for Manchester City in terms of minutes played this season. Several other Premier League players are due for a break before him. Here is a list of the top players in terms of minutes played since July:
1. Bruno Guimaraes – 4,340 minutes (Newcastle and Brazil)
2. Bruno Fernandes – 4,251 minutes (Manchester United and Portugal)
3. Tomas Soucek – 4,216 minutes (West Ham and Czechia)
4. Gabriel Magalhaes – 4,150 minutes (Arsenal and Brazil)
5. Declan Rice – 4,123 minutes (West Ham and England)
6. John McGinn – 4,105 minutes (Aston Villa and Scotland)
7. William Saliba – 4,078 minutes (Arsenal and France)
8. Virgil van Dijk – 4,027 minutes (Liverpool and Netherlands)
9. Fabian Schar – 3,994 minutes (Newcastle and Switzerland)
10. Phil Foden – 3,976 minutes (Manchester City and England)
The list goes on with players from various clubs playing substantial minutes. It is evident that the demands of the game have pushed these players to their limits. Despite Rodri’s pleas for rest, he finds himself down the list in terms of minutes played this season. The intensity of the game and the players’ dedication to their clubs and countries have resulted in extended playing time for many.
