Rodri has finally spoken publicly about the Manchester City financial charges, and the former City midfielder’s comments have sparked an emotional reaction from supporters.
The Spain international was asked about reports that Manchester City had been found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges brought against them by the Premier League.
His response was clear.
Rodri said he believes in the justice system and believes in Manchester City’s innocence. He also defended the achievements he made during his time at the Etihad, arguing that the success he and his teammates achieved came through their work and commitment.
“They always express the confidence that they never did something wrong and we believe in that,” Rodri said.
“Until the moment they are proved wrong, we will believe the club. They always tell us the confidence they have on the innocence.”
Rodri cited the case as a reason for the confidence of the club’s players.
“We had the example of 2020 that the process was the same and at the end nothing happened,” he explained.
“We have faced something similar, we had a similar judicial process. Different accusation but similar process.
“There as well in the first instance we were found guilty, but we believed in the club and the innocence that the club maintained and in the end we ended up acquitted.
“So, I believe in the justice system, and I believe in the innocence of the club.”
For City fans, hearing Rodri speak was always likely to carry significant emotional weight.
He was one of the central figures of Manchester City’s most successful era.
He scored the winning goal in the 2023 Champions League final.
He won multiple Premier League titles.
He became the first City player to win the Ballon d’Or.
And now, even after leaving the club for Barcelona, he has publicly expressed his belief in his former team.
The response from supporters was immediate.
“Go on Rodri Lad. Love You”
One of the clearest reactions came from NadirMCFC:
“Go on Rodri lad. Love you”
The message captured the affection City supporters still have for their former midfielder.
Another fan simply wrote:
“RODRIII”
That reaction received hundreds of engagements.
There was also:
“King 👑”
And another supporter described Rodri as:
“GOATTTTTT”
These reactions show that Rodri’s status among Manchester City supporters has barely changed since his departure.
If anything, his comments have reminded fans why he became such an important figure at the club.
Rodri Has Chosen to Stand by Manchester City
The most important part of Rodri’s response was his statement that he believes in the innocence of his former club.
According to reports of his comments, Rodri said:
“I believe in the justice system and I believe in the innocence of the club.”
He also expressed confidence that the legal process would ultimately provide clarity.
That does not change the reported verdict.
It does, however, reveal where Rodri stands personally.
Manchester City have maintained their position throughout the case, and the club has said the Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements still to be completed. City are expected to appeal.
For supporters, Rodri’s words provide another familiar voice backing the club during an uncomfortable moment.
“Honestly Love Him Man IDC”
One of the most emotional reactions came from a supporter using the account h3mzamcfc:
“honestly love him man idc”
The comment attracted more than 300 engagements.
It is easy to understand why.
Rodri’s relationship with Manchester City supporters goes far beyond statistics.
He became a symbol of the Guardiola era.
His composure in midfield helped City dominate matches.
His positional intelligence made him one of the most important players in the squad.
And his biggest moment came on the biggest stage.
In June 2023, Rodri scored the only goal in City’s Champions League final victory over Inter Milan.
That goal completed City’s historic treble.
For many supporters, that moment alone guarantees his place in club history.
“My Ballon d’Or Winner” – Fans Still Adore Rodri
Another supporter, lookx, wrote:
“my ballon dor winner🩵”
That comment attracted more than 300 engagements.
It was a reference to Rodri’s status as Manchester City’s first Ballon d’Or winner.
His 2024 Ballon d’Or victory came after a season in which he helped City win another Premier League title and Spain win Euro 2024.
That achievement strengthened his reputation as one of the most influential midfielders of his generation.
For City fans, therefore, Rodri’s words are coming from a player who was directly involved in the club’s most important successes.
That gives his comments an emotional significance that a neutral observer simply would not have.
“That’s My MF PLAYAAAAAAA”
The Vibe posted:
“That’s my MF PLAYAAAAAAA”
The reaction received the highest engagement among the supporter comments provided.
It was followed by another enthusiastic response from Danis:
“OH WOW YOU ACTUALLY SAID SOMETHING”
That comment is particularly interesting.
Rodri has generally been relatively quiet about Manchester City’s legal situation.
The reported verdict has been one of the biggest stories surrounding the club in years, but players and former players have largely avoided making sweeping public statements.
That made Rodri’s decision to address the subject stand out.
For City supporters who had been waiting to hear from someone connected to the Guardiola-era squad, his comments clearly mattered.
Rodri’s Timing Is Significant
Rodri spoke shortly after reports emerged that an independent tribunal had reached decisions on Manchester City’s 115 charges.
Reports say City were found guilty on all but one of the charges, although the sanctions have not yet been determined. City are expected to appeal.
Manchester City have also stressed that the process remains ongoing.
That means the current situation is not necessarily the final chapter.
The appeal process could still change aspects of the findings.
For Rodri, the important point appears to be that he continues to trust the process while maintaining his belief in the club.
His comments therefore avoid pretending that the legal case does not exist.
Instead, he has expressed his personal belief in City’s innocence.
“Club Legend for a Reason”
Another supporter wrote:
“Club Legend for a reason”
That might be the most fitting description of the reaction.
Rodri’s status at Manchester City was established long before Friday’s verdict.
He arrived from Atletico Madrid in 2019.
He went on to become one of the central players in Guardiola’s midfield.
He helped City win multiple domestic trophies and the Champions League.
His late goal against Inter remains one of the defining moments in the club’s history.
And his Ballon d’Or victory added another individual landmark.
Whatever happens with the legal process, those moments remain part of Rodri’s playing career.
That is why his statement has resonated so strongly with supporters.
Rodri’s Message About City’s Trophies
Rodri also addressed the idea that Manchester City’s achievements could somehow be erased.
His wider comments stressed that what the team achieved was earned through effort, teamwork and the work they put in together.
That point is especially significant to City supporters.
The Guardiola era produced some of the greatest moments in Manchester City’s history.
The Centurions.
The domestic treble.
The Champions League triumph.
The historic Treble.
Multiple Premier League titles.
Rodri was part of almost all of the biggest moments.
His message was therefore not simply a defence of the club.
It was also a defence of the teammates he shared those experiences with.
City Fans Have Responded With Love
The reaction provided from City supporters is strikingly positive.
“Go on Rodri lad. Love you.”
“King.”
“GOATTTTTT.”
“My Ballon d’Or winner.”
“Club Legend for a reason.”
These are not complicated responses.
They show an emotional connection between the supporters and a player who delivered some of the most important moments in the club’s history.
Rodri’s statement appears to have strengthened that bond.
A Different Kind of Rodri Moment
Rodri’s greatest Manchester City moments normally happened on a football pitch.
Against Inter Milan.
Against Arsenal.
Against Liverpool.
In title races.
In Champions League knockout matches.
This time, however, his words have created the moment.
The former City midfielder has publicly backed his old club at a time when the institution is facing enormous scrutiny.
He has not attempted to decide the legal case himself.
Instead, he has said that he believes in the justice system and in Manchester City’s innocence.
That message was enough for City fans.
“Rodri” Is Still a Special Word at Manchester City
The reactions ultimately tell the story.
A simple “RODRIII” received huge support.
“GOATTTTTT” followed.
Another fan called him a king.
Another celebrated him as their Ballon d’Or winner.
And one supporter simply said they loved him.
For Manchester City supporters, Rodri remains much more than a former player.
He is part of the club’s modern history.
He is the man who scored the Champions League-winning goal.
He is a Ballon d’Or winner.
He is a key figure from the Guardiola era.
And now he has publicly expressed his belief in Manchester City during one of the most difficult moments in the club’s recent history.
The legal process will continue, with an appeal expected and sanctions yet to be determined.
But whatever happens next, the reaction from City fans shows that Rodri has not lost the affection he built during his years at the Etihad.
If anything, his latest comments have reminded supporters exactly why he remains one of their most beloved modern legends.
