Manchester City’s Rodri and AC Milan’s Alvaro Morata have been charged by UEFA for chanting “Gibraltar is Spanish” during Spain’s Euro 2024 victory celebrations in Madrid. The Gibraltar Football Association lodged a complaint, prompting UEFA to appoint a disciplinary inspector to evaluate a potential violation of their regulations.

The Gibraltar FA criticized Spain’s behavior as “provocative and insulting,” stating that such conduct has no place in football. UEFA confirmed disciplinary proceedings against both Rodri and Morata for violating the basic rules of conduct, using sporting events for non-sporting purposes, and bringing the sport into disrepute. The Control, Ethics, and Disciplinary Body will decide on the matter in the future.

UEFA’s statement detailed the charges against Rodri and Morata, including violations of the general principles of conduct and the basic rules of decent conduct. The incident during Spain’s Euro 2024 trophy presentation has sparked controversy and led to formal charges being brought against the two players in question.
