Pep Guardiola is not thinking any further ahead than trying to clinch Manchester City a treble of trophies this season, admitting his long-term future has not crossed his mind.
Guardiola’s side could record a historic campaign if they manage to triumph in the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup this season.
They currently sit at the summit of the top-flight and are in the finals of the other two competitions, leaving them with a strong chance of winning all three tournaments.
If they did so, his City team would become the second English side – in the men’s game – to complete the treble, after Manchester United’s success in 1998-1999.
It would leave the Spaniard in a position where there is little left to achieve at the club and, when that was suggested to him, he told reporters to ask him ‘after’ they complete the treble.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Guardiola said: ‘Hmmm…. first, we have to win it. [Then] you can ask me after and I will tell you how I feel and how I think.’
These Guardiola’s comments were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
@aalexariton: “i think he misunderstood the question, no way he’s saying he’s thinking “hmmm” after signing a new contract a few months ago”
@Habib_Snr: “Are the media trying to make Pep Guardiola leave or what?? This is rivals at work”
@AkshatMCFC_47: “They want him gone so badly.”
@lon_nol101: “They want him gone but he’s going nowhere”
@aliiiwest: “They really want him to leave as soon as he wins the Treble like…hope he stays and dominates this league even more”
@delulumcfcfan: “He’s not going anywhere even if we achieve the treble”
