Robbie Mustoe was not impressed with Matheus Nunes’ performance in Manchester City’s game against Everton. Following City’s 2-0 win on Saturday, Craig Burley stated that he had not yet seen the £53 million signing do well at the Etihad Stadium.

As Matheus Nunes was taken off in the 57th minute of the game, the 25-year-old had played as one of the advanced midfielders, partnering Julian Alvarez.

Despite Phil Foden’s brilliant performance in the previous game, Nunes was preferred by Pep Guardiola as one of his creative midfielders.

However, Robbie Mustoe believed Nunes was quiet and did not do much during the game, describing his performance as his worst game in sky blue.

“Matheus Nunes was a little quiet. I like him, new signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers, didn’t do a ton”, he said on NBC Sports’ The 2 Robbies Podcast.

Mustoe’s statement appears to accurately reflect Nunes’ performance as the Portuguese midfielder struggled to maintain possession, which is crucial in Guardiola’s system. He lost the ball on multiple occasions, providing Everton with opportunities to counter.

Additionally, Nunes had little impact in the attacking phases of the game. His attempts to dribble past opponents often failed, resulting in a lack of contribution to his team’s attack. It seems that things did not work in Nunes’ favor during the game, making it his worst performance in a Manchester City shirt.

Overall, Matheus Nunes’ performance against Everton was underwhelming, failing to deliver on the high expectations set by his transfer fee. While it’s common for players to have off-days, Mustoe’s criticism points to the need for improvement from Nunes, especially as he aims to establish himself as a key figure in Manchester City’s midfield.

Whether Nunes can bounce back from this performance remains to be seen, but it’s evident that there’s room for improvement in his game.
