Manchester City are reportedly “set to resume” their Premier League campaign against Wolves on Saturday but could still see the game called off.

Football made the decision to postpone all fixtures this weekend as a mark of respect to The Queen, who sadly passed away on Thursday at the age of 96 at her Balmoral estate.

Manchester City saw their game with Tottenham Hotspur postponed and are awaiting official confirmation ahead of this weekend’s clash with Wolves at Molineux.

EFL matches are set to resume in midweek while English clubs participating in Europe are also poised to return to action over the coming days.

However, there are concerns that some of next weekend’s fixtures could be affected by The Queen’s funeral, which will take place on Monday, September 19.

According to the information of The Mirror‘s John Cross, Premier League fixtures are “set to resume” this weekend but that the top-flight still faces the “threat of mass postponements”.

The report continues by stressing that the football fixture calendar is at “breaking point” because of the World Cup, which will pause the league season in November.

The EFL are set to recommence with a full midweek fixture list and the Premier League are described as “desperate” for all games to go ahead, with “moving kick-offs and switching days” discussed.

In a statement, the National Police Chiefs’ Council said : “Following the decisions of the Premier League and English Football League to cancel this weekend’s matches, we will work with football clubs to try and ensure that, where possible, football fixtures can take place safely when balanced against the requirement to support national events and deliver day to day policing. This is a unique situation and we are working closely with everyone involved.”
