Manchester City Fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports that Barcelona are lining up a move for Pep Guardiola if the club’s UEFA ban appeal is upheld.
City have been banned from the Champions League and Europa League for the next two seasons and fined €30 million (S$45 million) after Uefa found them guilty of committing “serious breaches” of financial regulations.
An appeal is being readied at the Etihad Stadium, with City adamant that they have done nothing wrong. It remains to be seen whether they will be cleared, but questions are already being asked of the future of key figures on and off the field.
According to Daily Express Sport, Barcelona are ‘confident’ that Pep Guardiola is ‘open’ to returning to the club, if Manchester City’s two-year European ban is upheld – and ‘feel it will be easier’ to persuade him to go back if he is faced with no European competition.
Guardiola reportedly has a break clause in his contract which means he can depart at the conclusion of this campaign should certain stipulations be met that satisfy the City hierarchy.

LMAO! Pep’s going nowhere.— Gaúcho (@YungHusband_) June 27, 2020
Guardiola don’t get sacked, he leaves when he wants to.— Adesunkanmi! (@Pob_City) June 28, 2020
I think he will leave at the end of his contract and Lillo will replace him, that is just my thinking.— ً (@Creber_) June 27, 2020
Peps next job will be in italy or france or even international management— oggy🇬🇧 (@oggy79) June 28, 2020
“People need to understand his next club will be a club in Italy, he said he would never go back to Barca and with how bad they currently are in pretty sure he won’t go back. He won’t want to ruin that 2008-12 period.”, claimed one fan.
while another asked, “Does Barcelona support the UEFA decision?”
Another tweet said: “They are deluding themselves and they know it. Pep Guardiola will never go back to Barcelona and the current inept leadership of Bartomeo! The only person who can bring him back is Joan Laporta”
Pep Guardiola’s position has always been that he trusts what he has been told by the club’s leadership. Were that to be proven false, he may feel that those directors have betrayed him.
Should the ban be upheld, though, the consequences for City could be profound. Kevin De Bruyne has already said that he would consider leaving rather than face two seasons without Champions League football.
Raheem Sterling, who is being monitored by Real Madrid, is another reaching the peak years of his career who may be persuaded that it’s not in his best interests to stay.
