Pep Guardiola has admitted he will not endure a managerial tenure as long as Sir Alex Ferguson undertook at Manchester United, at Manchester City.

Guardiola, who has spent no more than four seasons at a club, is in his sixth year at City, a tenure that has so far been supremely successful.

The Spaniard is contracted at the Etihad Stadium until 2023 and could extend that, but expects to work elsewhere at some point in the future.

Guardiola was asked if he could stay for a decade or more ahead of Manchester City’s trip to Lisbon for a Champions League clash with Sporting CP.

The City boss vowed not to emulate a manager who stayed in Manchester for 27 years. “I’m not going to be Sir Alex Ferguson, don’t worry,” he smiled.

“I still have a year and a half left on my contract, it’s a long time. There is a good atmosphere, and that always helps. Of the last 20 games we have won 18 and lost one, in Leipzig, where nothing was at stake”.

These Guardiola’s comments on his future were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
