Manchester City is not expecting their players from the 2024 European Championships final to return to training until after the Community Shield. Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic have already joined the squad in New York City for preseason training after their early exit from the Euros. Most other first-team players are granted extended breaks and are expected to return on August 5, except for the Euro final stars who will have individual conversations about their return dates.
Pep Guardiola mentioned that no other players are expected to join the preseason tour in the United States after the initial group has returned. The players who participated in the Euro final have been advised to return only when they feel fit and ready, likely after the Community Shield. Rodri, who won the Euro 2024 title and Player of the Tournament prize, may be granted a longer break and miss the Community Shield match against Manchester United.
The performance of Rodri and other players in the Euros has led to discussions about their potential nomination for the Ballon d’Or. Some players may decide to return early to training to overcome their disappointment from the Euro final, while others may take a longer break to rest and prepare for the upcoming Premier League season. Guardiola emphasized the importance of managing player rest to ensure their readiness for the long season ahead.
