Pep Guardiola reaffirmed his commitment to Manchester City after rejecting international job offer

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has reaffirmed his commitment to the reigning Premier League champions after reportedly rejecting the chance to become Brazil’s new head coach.

The Selecao are on the lookout for a successor to Tite, who stood down from his position after Brazil lost to Croatia on penalties in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

Guardiola is thought to have been one of the candidates shortlisted by the Brazilian Football Federation, alongside Zinedine Zidane and Carlo Ancelotti.

However, the 51-year-old, who signed a new contract with the Premier League champions in November, has never managed at international level with the 51-year-old establishing himself as one of football’s greatest ever managers with stints at Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, and won’t be making the switch anytime soon.

According to The Mirror, Guardiola has respectfully refused the chance to become the new manager of the Brazil national team as he has unfinished business in Manchester.

Brazil’s legendary striker Ronaldo approached Guardiola’s agent Pere to see if the Spaniard would be interested in the vacant position left by previous manager Tite following the nation’s shock quarter-final World Cup exit in Qatar.

However, was rebuffed in his efforts with Guardiola keen to continue at Man City at least for another two years after signing a contract extension in November that keeps him in England’s northwest until 2024.

Pep Guardiola current seven-year stint in Manchester is the longest of Guardiola’s trophy-laden managerial career, having previously stalked the Barcelona dugout for just four years and remained in Munich for just three.

However, the City boss admitted just last week that he would walk away if the relationship between him and the club became “broken”, and he would not try to match Sir Alex Ferguson or Arsene Wenger’s tenures in Premier League management just for the sake of it.

“The moment I feel something is broken, I will resign or not extend. I continue to say I’m not going to stay like Fergie and Arsene,” Guardiola told reporters at a press conference.

“The contract is just paper. I extended because I have the feeling we can still play good. But in the end, it’s the results. If we are tired of each other, I will not finish this contract.”

Since taking over at the Etihad in 2016, Guardiola has led Man City to a total of 11 trophies, winning four Premier League titles, four EFL Cups, one FA Cup and two Community Shields.
