Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is known for his ability to develop players, but sometimes great talents slip through the net. Sergio Gomez left City in the summer of 2023 and has thrived at Real Sociedad, making a positive start to his career at the club. Despite mostly playing as a left-back at City, Gomez has been utilized as a winger and attacking midfielder at Sociedad, showing his versatility and potential in different positions.
Gomez’s decision to move to Real Sociedad seems to be paying off, as he has already made 10 appearances and provided three assists for the team. Guardiola may have misused Gomez by not utilizing him further forward during his time at City, where he struggled to break into the starting XI. With City having a sell-on clause for Gomez, they could benefit from his success at Sociedad in the future.
