Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson is facing an uncertain future at the Etihad Stadium, with manager Pep Guardiola stating that he does not know if Ederson will stay beyond this summer. The Brazilian goalkeeper has been the subject of transfer speculation, with Manchester City reportedly receiving bids from clubs in Saudi Arabia. Guardiola mentioned that Ederson will have to make a decision on his future in the coming days and weeks.
Ederson recently returned to training and played 45 minutes in a pre-season match for Manchester City, showcasing his skills in the ball-playing department. Despite his quality, there has been no contact from any club regarding a potential transfer. Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad were both interested in signing Ederson, with the former submitting a £25 million offer that was rejected by Manchester City.
If Ederson does leave Manchester City, the club will need to find a new goalkeeper to replace him. It is uncertain whether the club will look to the transfer market for a new back-up, or promote Stefan Ortega to the first-choice role. Guardiola praised Ederson’s performance in the pre-season match but indicated that a decision on his future will need to be made soon.
