Manchester City is on the verge of completing a significant transfer deal by selling Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid for £81m, a significant profit from the £14m they paid for him in 2022. The Argentine striker expressed dissatisfaction with not starting in some of City’s biggest games last season, leading to the reported exit. Pundit Paul Scholes believes that Pep Guardiola won’t be bothered by Alvarez’s departure and may not seek a traditional number nine like Erling Haaland to replace him, as he has talented options like Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva.

Alvarez had a successful two seasons at City, scoring 36 goals, providing 18 assists, and winning multiple trophies. The only new arrival for City this summer is Savinho, and it remains to be seen if Guardiola will bring in a replacement for Alvarez before the transfer window closes. With a record fee expected from Alvarez’s sale, City’s summer transfer business could take an interesting turn as Guardiola looks to strengthen his squad further for the upcoming season.
