Paul Merson has shared his prediction for Manchester City’s Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
City’s previous Premier League outing saw them draw 1-1 against Liverpool, which was then followed by them beating RB Leipzig 3-2 in midweek for their latest Champions League match.
With the Citizens now preparing to take on Ange Postecoglou’s side, Merson has shared his thoughts on how this game will go.
Written in his latest column for Sportskeeda where he previewed this weekend’s Premier League fixtures, Merson had this to say about Sunday’s clash between City and Spurs.
He said: “With the number of injuries Tottenham have got, there’s no way they’re beating City.
“I’d be worried going into this game if I were a Spurs fan. They might cause City a few problems on the break but if they leave themselves open like they did last weekend, they will be in trouble.
“I think if Tottenham were up to full strength, this would be game on. Spurs’ problem is that most of their side-lined stars are starters. That’s very unfortunate. I think Ange Postecoglou is going to stick to his principles and that’s going to cost him and his side dearly against City.”
Merson acknowledged Postecoglou’s commitment to playing front-foot football, but he urged the manager to be pragmatic, especially in the face of the injury and suspension crisis affecting his squad.
“There’s no way Tottenham can go and play the way they do against Man City. Great managers change things up.”
‘I like Ange, he’s a top manager. He’s come into the Premier League to a big club and said he’s going to play his way, front-foot football – and I have all the respect in the world for him doing that.”
“But when you haven’t got the players, you’ve got to take a step back. When he’s got his full team, 100 per cent play like he’s playing.”
