Over the past 30 years, Wayne Rooney has been one of the top-class strikers in the Premier League, scoring 208 goals in 491 appearances for Manchester United and Everton, winning five league titles and being inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame in 2022. However, in a recent social media challenge, former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris picked Sergio Aguero over Rooney as the better striker. Aguero, who scored 184 goals in 275 Premier League games for Manchester City, is the club’s all-time leading goalscorer and has been hailed as a City legend.
During their respective careers, Aguero outperformed Rooney when it came to facing Lloris on the field, scoring 10 goals in 14 games compared to Rooney’s four goals in six games. Lloris’s preference for Aguero over Rooney in the challenge may have been due to the Argentine’s significant impact on Manchester City, making him a popular choice for many fans. Aguero’s success at City, along with his prolific goal-scoring record, solidified his status as one of the best strikers in Premier League history.
