River Plate forward Julian Alvarez has responded to Pep Guardiola‘s recent comments on the Argentina international ahead of his move to Manchester City next season.
The 22-year-old forward moved to Man City for a fee worth around £14.2m plus add-ons but will remain on loan with River Plate until July at the earliest.
Guardiola is satisfied with the transfer dealings and hailed the Alvarez deal as an excellent piece of business and intend for him to be part of their pre-season squad.
Speaking to Argentinian football podcast Olé, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola spoke about the pending arrival of the forward.
“If we hire him, it is to have him with us. We believe that he is a player for us. Julian smells a goal and goals are worth money. At City they saw him as an opportunity for the future, in the next pre-season he will be with us,” Pep Guardiola said.
“I see him on TV but I want to see him on the grass with his team-mates, with what we want him to do. If we weren’t convinced we wouldn’t have bought him. We want it yes or yes.
“The reports we have are exceptional. How he moves in short spaces and how he defines is something very difficult to find.”
Alvarez scored his fourth goal of the season for River Plate on Wednesday night and responded to Pep Guardiola’s recent comments.
In response, Alvarez said: “These compliments are always good. I try to do my best for the team. Today I had several but I couldn’t convert, so I’ll keep working so that I can play in the next games.
“I have several years of career and I try to continue learning as much as I can to be a better player and a better person.”
“It’s nice that Pep Guardiola has praised me in the last few hours. But today, I am angry because I missed several goals (vs Deportivo Laferrere).”
These Julian Alvarez’s comments were shared on Twitter and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
