Pep Guardiola revealed why he chose not to turn to his substitutes as Manchester City

City dominated proceedings at Selhurst Park but were unable to make the breakthrough, despite having 18 shots, their biggest tally without scoring in the Premier League since their 1-0 defeat at Tottenham in August.

Guardiola did not make a single change during the match, despite having Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus on the bench.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Guardiola said: “We played a good game and created a lot of chances but couldn’t convert. Sometimes it happens.”

“I thought a lot about making changes but they were playing well. The guys in the side had the ability to score, I think they were playing good.

“We didn’t score, that was the mistake. The team that was there today was there before and will be there in the next game. I am very pleased with the performance and the way we played.”

These Guardiola’s comments were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“I watched the game.. By the 70th minute, we had run out of ideas. Passes went astray, and Palace defended any balls in with ease. An injection of energy would of helped a lot (in my opinion)”

“Bernado was awful from the 1st minute, seems fatigued as he has played too many games
Why didn’t he bring on Gundo in the 60th minute.”

“Was pretty obvious Bernardo wasn’t playing well, it happens. Replacing a player who’s having a mare won’t upset anything but it might improve our overall play.”

“The least he could’ve done was to bring on Gundogan.”

“Do people not understand that he will always defend them in the press? What do you guys think he says in the locker room.”

“I totally agree with Pep. We played well to the end, but the chances just didn’t go in tonight against a packed defence. Frustrating, but that’s football. These pseudo football managers who think they know better than him always make me laugh.”

“If we had scored and won the game without any subs, people wouldn’t be saying these things. Pep has his reason for things. At least nobody got injured and at least we got a clean sheet. There’s still a long way to go, people need to just pipe down on pep.”

“Exactly my point and every other person seems to see it another way. It only shows he knows what he has instructed and it’s working out good. Other coaches would make substitutions to search for luck, Pep had a game plan and that speaks volume..”
