Manchester City’s interest in Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has been complicated by comments from his teammate Joelinton suggesting he is likely to stay at the club. Despite being linked with a move to Manchester City, Arsenal, and Paris Saint-Germain, Guimaraes had a £100 million release clause last month but Newcastle have the opportunity to demand a higher transfer fee.
Guimaraes had an impressive season with Newcastle last year, featuring in 37 Premier League matches and all six UEFA Champions League matches. Despite Newcastle missing out on European qualification, Joelinton believes Guimaraes is happy at the club and will likely stay for the upcoming season. The Brazilian midfielder has been with Newcastle since January 2022 when he moved from Lyon for £40 million.
Manchester City has already made one signing this summer, bringing in Brazilian forward Savinho from ES Troyes. They are also set to retain midfielder James McAtee for the new campaign. With Guimaraes potentially staying at Newcastle, City may need to explore other options in their pursuit of midfield reinforcements.
