Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the Premier League champions are £20m shy of Brighton & Hove Albion’s asking price for Marc Cucurella and refuse to meet the Seagulls’ valuation.

With Oleksandr Zinchenko on his way to Arsenal, Manchester City, who has just one recognised left-back in his senior squad — Joao Cancelo — going into the new season, are pushing to sign Cucurella from Brighton this summer.

The Spaniard has been Manchester City’s top target for a while and are still intent on signing Brighton’s Marc Cucurella this summer, but only for the right price.

ESPN claim that Brighton and City are £20m apart in their valuation for the Spanish full-back as the two teams try to find a transfer fee that works for both sides.

Brighton have no need to sell the 23-year-old to City and are therefore in a strong negotiating position as they hold out for a figure rumoured to be in excess of £50m.

According to a separate report from the Sun, Man City believe Brighton’s asking price for Marc Cucurella is around £20M too high, and are ready to walk away and look elsewhere for their new left-back if the Seagulls are not willing to compromise.

Regardless of City’s financial strength in the transfer window, they will not throw money at a player simply to get a deal done, meaning that these negotiations could rumble on for weeks.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

“Great move by Txiki, £50m for a guy who only had 1 good season in this league is insane..”

“If we’re gonna step away we better step away quick and move on to another target. We cannot let it drag on. Too risky for our season..”

“who decided to let go on Zinchenko if we didn’t have Cucurella wrapped up?.”

“How about already having the deal agreed instead of thinking it’s best idea to let Zinchenko go.”

“We sold Zinchenko for 32M, so logically Cucurella’s price should be more than 32M?.”

“This was supposed to be a key piece of the window, why weren’t we already looking elsewhere? Why weren’t we prepared to pay what was needed for Pep’s top choice?.”

“I think this is a negotiating tactic to drive the price down because City decided in May that Cucurella was the Zinchenko replacement. Pep’s a huge fan of his as well. But if City do decide to walk away, Raum is the answer (I’m still Team Cucu tho).”

“Very hard to understand City’s position on this. He’s got a long contract, City clearly rate him good enough for City, he’s not old and the going rate for any top player is over £40m. Why would Brighton take anywhere near £30m.”
