Manchester City has a strong history of developing young talents, with players like Phil Foden and Cole Palmer emerging from their academy to join the senior squad. However, they have also sold players they developed, such as Morgan Rogers and Jadon Sancho. Nedum Onuoha recently revealed that City almost released Palmer before he made it to the senior squad, but academy director Jason Wilcox saw potential in him. Since leaving City, Palmer has excelled at Chelsea, scoring 31 goals and delivering 19 assists in 53 appearances.
Despite enjoying success at Chelsea, Jamie Carragher and Pep Guardiola have both acknowledged that City may have made a mistake in letting Palmer go. Guardiola admitted that he should have given Palmer more playing time at City to help him develop. Onuoha’s revelation about how close Palmer was to being released raises questions about what could have been had City not kept faith in the promising young player.
