Manchester City players are often tested in various positions by manager Pep Guardiola, leading to only a select few players consistently playing in their natural positions. Players like Erling Haaland, Ruben Dias, and Riyad Mahrez have primarily stuck to their positions at City. Jack Grealish, known for his time on the left-wing, has occasionally played centrally but is viewed as a wide player by Guardiola. However, former teammates like Micah Richards believe Grealish looks more comfortable as a number 10, despite strong competition in that role from Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden.
Guardiola’s preference for De Bruyne and Foden in the number 10 position complicates Grealish’s role at City, despite calls for him to play there more regularly. While Guardiola is known for experimenting with tactics and player roles, it is unlikely that Grealish will move to a number 10 position anytime soon due to the existing talent in that role. Despite Grealish’s versatility and willingness to adapt, Guardiola’s current tactics and player options may limit his opportunities in the desired number 10 position.
