Since the Abu Dhabi takeover in 2008, Manchester City has seen many top-class players join their ranks, making big impacts and leaving a mark in the club’s history. As they aim to secure their fifth consecutive Premier League trophy, current Wolves player Mario Lemina recently praised former City star David Silva, ranking him fifth among 10 former Premier League midfielders. Silva, who made 436 appearances for City before leaving in 2020, is regarded as one of the best players in Premier League history, having scored 77 goals, delivered 130 assists, and won four Premier League titles during his time with the club.
Lemina’s admiration for Silva echoes the sentiments of Phil Foden, who idolized the Spanish midfielder in the early stages of his career. Silva’s impact at City was so significant that the club honored him with a statue outside the Etihad Stadium following his departure. With his skill, class, and contributions to City’s success, it is no surprise that both current and former players continue to recognize Silva as one of the best midfielders to have graced the Premier League.
