Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays another update on the club’s pursuit of Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Braut Haaland.
Having missed out on a deal for Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane earlier this year, the Norwegian goal machine is reportedly next Pep Guardiola’s ‘primary striker target’ as he looks for a new No 9 after the departure of Sergio Aguero last summer.
The Borussia Dortmund talisman has become one of the most sought-after players in the transfer market since making his breakthrough at Red Bull Salzburg a couple of years ago.
Haaland, who remains under contract with the Black and Yellow until 2024, has already netted 19 goals in 17 appearances for Dortmund this term despite injury concerns.
The Dortmund superstar is arguably the hottest property in world football at the moment and with City short of options at the point of the attack, it’s no surprise they have been tipped as potential suitors for the Norway international.
His influence on Dortmund was clear to see on Saturday when he provided an assist during their remarkable comeback win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
Sam Lee writing for the Athletic early this week reported that Manchester City are very keen on signing Erling Haaland but know Real Madrid are in a stronger position to secure his services right now.
Kaveh Solhekol via Sky Sports says that City are in ‘pole position’ to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.
“If you’re talking about seeing [Erling] Haaland in the Premier League, Man City are in pole position. We know they’ve been looking for an out-and-out striker for a long time, even though they don’t really need one, and Pep Guardiola says ‘we’re thriving without an out-and-out striker’,” Kaveh Solhekol said.
“I think somewhere down the line they need to sign a striker, and if you’re going to sign a striker, and are as powerful and successful as City are, why not get the best young striker in the world at a very sensible price.”
“Pep Guardiola is a very demanding manager, you have to play the Pep Guardiola way, and do what he wants you to do. We’ve seen players take a while to adapt to that. Normally players take at least one season to adapt to his way of playing.”
“As far as Haaland is concerned, it would not be the easy option to go to Manchester City. Even though he would almost be guaranteed success if he was to go there.”
“He would be able to move to other clubs where he could score a lot more goals and perhaps not have to work so hard, and the environment wouldn’t be as demanding as it is at Manchester City, and then he could get his move to a Manchester City, Manchester United or Liverpool – or another club in the Premier League – three or four years down the line.”
“I think it’s going to be difficult for him to say no to Pep Guardiola.”
In light to the update on Haaland, many Man City fans have reacted – here are some of the best responses.
Why are people gassing up this news? We’ve known this for ages, the issue is whether Madrid get him https://t.co/W2uGKLN7rB

Tbh it’s obvious. We’re the only team that’s really in the mix in the PL. Problem is Madrid.

Riola using so many media outlets & Manchester City especially to get a big deal for his player. Haaland is not coming to city. Not sure Pep & his technical team are dieing to have him like we the fans do. Their ideal striker was Kane, they have sight on another and it’s not HLND

It’s up to the player. We don’t know 100% what’s true but he seems keen on La Liga and Madrid. Every city fan wants him at the club so let’s hope we can persuade him. But if he ends up going to Spain that’s cos that was his first choice. City will have to look at someone else.
