Manchester City are considering a loan agreement for their academy graduate Luke Mbete this summer. With limited options in the central defender position, Mbete has been given a chance to impress during the pre-season tour of the United States. The Croatian international, Josko Gvardiol, returned late from his holidays after the European Championship and is expected to fill in at left-back when needed.
Mbete has been training alongside other rising stars such as Jahmai Simpson-Pusey and Callum Doyle, with reports suggesting Turkish side Trabzonspor are interested in signing him on loan for the upcoming season. If the deal goes through, this would be Mbete’s fourth successive temporary loan move in senior men’s football, having previously played for Huddersfield Town, Bolton Wanderers, and Den Bosch in the Netherlands.
Manchester City are likely to send out several young players on loan next season, with Doyle also expected to leave the club. Norwich City is reportedly interested in signing Doyle for a season-long loan deal. Mbete’s loan move could provide him with valuable experience and playing time to continue his development as a central defender.
