Manchester City is looking to secure a contract renewal for midfielder Alex Robertson, who has garnered interest from other clubs after a successful loan spell at Portsmouth last season. Despite Portsmouth’s desire to re-sign him, Cardiff City has now emerged as a candidate interested in signing Robertson this summer.
Robertson, a 21-year-old Australian international, made 27 appearances for Portsmouth last season, contributing with a goal and four assists. While Cardiff City prefers a permanent deal, Manchester City is considering offering Robertson a new contract and another loan agreement since his current contract expires in 2025.
Robertson, who joined Manchester City as an Under-15 player, has also had a loan spell with Ross County in the Scottish Premiership. He received his first senior international call-up for Australia in March 2023. It is yet to be determined if Robertson will be part of Manchester City’s pre-season tour squad in the United States, where the club will play four matches along the east coast.
