Manchester City is reportedly interested in triggering the release clause of Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze this summer to reinforce their midfield. With uncertainty surrounding Kevin De Bruyne’s future and the lack of a suitable back-up for defensive midfielder Rodrigo, the club is looking at Eze as a potential option. Despite De Bruyne insisting he will stay at the Etihad Stadium, interest from Saudi Arabia remains a factor.

In addition to Eze, City has identified other potential midfield recruits, including Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle and Brazil, who they believe can fill multiple roles. The club is now considering Eze as a different type of player for their midfield following De Bruyne’s injury last season. Both Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly willing to trigger Eze’s £60 million release clause.

Manchester City has a history of using release clauses to prevent other clubs from taking advantage of their financial strength. Despite turning down a release clause opportunity for the £100 million clause in Guimaraes’ contract, City is now focused on pursuing Eze. The club had previously considered signing Eze during the last summer transfer window but ultimately struck a deal with Wolverhampton Wanderers for Matheus Nunes.
