Manchester City are said to be ready to make a major push for Erling Haaland next summer, with reported target Dusan Vlahovic said to be seeking £200,000-a-week should he move clubs.
Having missed out on a deal for Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane earlier this year, the Citizens are expected to spend big on a new centre-forward ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
And with Ferran Torres set to depart for Barcelona, it’s no surprise to see City linked with a couple of the best goalscorers in Europe ahead of the January window.
Borussia Dortmund’s striker Haaland is reportedly next Pep Guardiola’s ‘primary striker target’, while Vlahovic regarded as a realistic alternative as he looks for a new No 9 after the departure of Sergio Aguero last summer.
Man City to go all out for Haaland
According to Sport (h/t MailOnline), City are ready to make a major effort to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.
The report claims City have already reached out to the player’s representatives with a view to doing a summer deal.
The Norwegian has become one of the most sought-after players in the transfer market since making his breakthrough at Red Bull Salzburg a couple of years ago.
Haaland, who remains under contract with the Black and Yellow until 2024, has already netted 19 goals in 16 appearances for Dortmund this term despite injury concerns.
Such remarkable progress in Germany has invariably put the Norwegian goal machine on the radars of many European football clubs, who are bracing themselves for a battle to attract the services of the Dortmund talisman with a saga brewing ahead of the summer transfer window.
Vlahovic wage demands
The 21-year-old striker has been linked with a move to the Etihad as City were in the market for a prolific striker across the course of the summer transfer window.
According to the Daily Star, Fiorentina sensation Dusan Vlahovic will request a weekly salary of £200,000 when he moves club.
The Serbian forward, who is attracting interest from nearly every top side on the planet, scored 21 goals last season, and has 18 goals and 3 assists already this term, further adding to his growing reputation across the continent.
However, Guardiola has said City will not be looking to sign a striker in January despite the imminent sale of Torres, potentially opening the door for Arsenal or Tottenham to secure the 21-year-old’s signature.
But, the wage demands from the Fiorentina man may rule out the north London clubs, meaning City could potentially sign him further down the line.
Man City are without a natural striker in the squad and whilst Haaland and Vlahović are extraordinary talent, Guardiola’s side have been one of the most prolific sides in the Premier League, with only Liverpool scoring more goals in the top-flight this season than the reigning English champions.
Indeed, a lack of goals is hardly an issue for City, but Signing a natural striker could be the missing factor for Guardiola’s side to dominate Europe for many years to come.
