Manchester City is showing interest in competing with Real Madrid for the signature of Real Sociedad forward Takefusa Kubo. As Pep Guardiola is expected to strengthen the squad next summer, the treble-winners have already taken steps to bring City Football Group teenager Savio to the Etihad Stadium for the 2024/25 campaign.
The club has also been linked with a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich, as well as forward trio Lucas Paqueta, Jamal Musiala, and Michael Olise, amidst the possibility of more first-team departures.
There are rumors of Bernardo Silva leaving the Etihad Stadium due to a £50 million release clause in his most recent contract extension, while Kalvin Phillips is also expected to permanently depart the Blues.
Mateo Kovacic, Josko Gvardiol, Matheus Nunes, and Jeremy Doku were added to the squad last summer, and the Cityzens are already eyeing further additions for the next campaign. Among these potential additions is Real Sociedad star Takefusa Kubo, who is reportedly the subject of interest from the reigning World Champions.
According to reports, Manchester City is closely monitoring the 22-year-old winger, who has been directly involved in nine goals in 18 La Liga appearances so far this season, and also featured in all six UEFA Champions League Group Stage fixtures.
City are willing to rival Real Madrid for the signature of Kubo, who has an estimated €60 million release clause. However, Real Madrid has the first right of refusal and also a €30 million buy-back option for the 22-year-old.
Kubo moved to Real Sociedad from the Santiago Bernabeu in 2022, after moving to Spain from FC Tokyo in 2019. He does have previous links to Manchester City, having played for the Blues’ sister-club Yokohama F Marinos on loan.
