Manchester City star Phil Foden has spoken about what Pep Guardiola told him early this season that was crucial to his performances and development.

Foden had the best season of his career since he was promoted to the Man City first team. The Englishman had over 30 goal contributions as he led the Cityzens to the historical fourth league title.

Speaking about his development, the England international, who turns 24 today, revealed what Pep Guardiola told him at the beginning of the season. He claimed that unlike the Spanish tactician, many other managers who have complicated his development.

“I feel like there’s other managers out there who complicate it a little bit,” Foden who won both the Premier League and Manchester City player of the season award said, according to Sportskeeda.

“The best advice he gave me this season was just, ‘Don’t try and be Phil Foden in every action’, and I feel like that advice really went a long way. I’ve been here for a long time now working with the manager.”

Phil Foden has been at Manchester City since he was a kid. He passed through every stage at the club to become one of their best players and one of the most decorated players at the club.

“And I think now is the time for me to step up and try and be the man who’s going to score the goals,” he said as he becomes a prominent player at the Etihad who can influence the result of any match.

“I knew what I was capable of doing this season, it’s so good to say that I’ve had a good season and I want to continue to play well,” he added.

The Englishman and his teammates ended the season as the Premier League champions, in addition to the Club World Cup and the Super Cup won earlier. They lost the FA Cup to Manchester United and were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League in the quarter-final by Real Madrid.
