With Manchester City winning their appeal against a Champions League ban, star players such as Kevin De Bruyne are now expected to sign new contracts at the Etihad.
De Bruyne was one of the players linked with a move away from the club if the Blues were unsuccessful in their appeal against a two-year ban from European competition.
The 29-year-old hinted that he could compromise with one year away from UEFA competitions but doesn’t seem willing to wait until he turns 30 to return to the Champions League.
With City winning their appeal and with De Bruyne still having three years remaining on his existing contrac, there was no immediate need for him to put pen to paper on an extension.
According to exclusive information from the 9320Podcast as relayed by Sports Illustrated, Kevin de Bruyne has ‘signalled his intent’ to finish his career at Manchester City and will sign a new five-year deal in the coming months.
Three factors in particular according to the report contributed towards the decision made by the Belgian international: the victory at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, his family’s settledness in Manchester, and assurances from Manchester City officials that there are ‘significant funds’ available to build a new team.
KDB last signed an extension with City in 2018, which saw the Belgian commit his future in Manchester until 2023.
This season, De Bruyne has won the Premier League playmaker award after equaling Thierry Henry’s record of 20 Premier League assists and his dominant displays in midfield have seen the play-maker considered as one of the favourites to land the prestigious PFA Player of the Year award.
