Manchester City have reportedly seen their pursuit of Jude Bellingham bolstered due to Pep Guardiola signing a new contract at the club.
Bellingham is all set to spark a major bidding war in the summer of 2023, with many top clubs including Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea vying for his signature from Borussia Dortmund.
The 19-year-old has become one the hottest young prospects on the continent since moving to Dortmund in 2020 from Birmingham City. Since then, he has been a regular for both club and country.
The midfielder has played in 22 games so far this season in all competitions, scoring nine goals and registering another three assists in the process. Pep Guardiola could do with someone like him in his midfield.
Guardiola, who put pen to paper on a new two-year deal at City, will now be at the club until the end of the 2024/25 season. According to 90min, this news has seen their chances of signing Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund drastically increase.
They report that the England star’s chance to play for Guardiola is a huge draw for Bellingham. It is also thought that the City’s manager’s contract renewal was a key part of the club’s transfer policy going forward, as the reputation that the 51-year-old carries can make all the difference when rivalling other sides to the top signings in Europe.
With Bellingham set to make a decision on his future after the World Cup, City will no doubt be buoyed by the 19-year-old’s start for England.
It’s been claimed that Borussia Dortmund will demand a price of around £130m million to sell Bellingham in the summer. That will not be a problem as it has been claimed that Man City will back Pep Guardiola with the funds to sign a top midfielder next summer.
That’s according to the Daily Mail who claims a new midfielder is seen as being key to staving off domestic competition from Liverpool and Arsenal, while improving City’s Champions League hopes.
