According to a report, Manchester City is one of the clubs that are put off by the asking price for Lille defender Leny Yoro. The Frenchman has been a subject of interest for City as it was reported earlier this month that the club had opened talks to sign Yoro. However, City was shocked by the asking price as they were told to pay a whopping £78 million to secure the teenage sensation.

Despite his young age, the 18-year-old has proven to be a key player for Lille, starting 17 out of 19 Ligue 1 games this season. His impressive displays have attracted the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with many regarding him as one of the most talented young center-backs on the continent.

Le10sport reported that the asking price of €70 million (£59.7 million) for Yoro has also put off other English heavyweights such as Liverpool and Manchester United. However, it is expected that these clubs will still try to sign the highly-rated defender in the summer of 2024.

With Yoro’s contract set to expire in 2025, Lille may be forced to let go of their precocious talent. Manchester City, in particular, should continue to budge despite Yoro’s undeniable talent. The reported fee is simply too high for such a young player, especially considering his limited experience in top-flight football.

Moreover, City already has an abundance of talented center-backs, and it seems unnecessary to strengthen this area of the pitch. Even if Yoro is seen as a potential full-back conversion, considering the challenges of adapting to English football, it may be too much responsibility to place on such a young and inexperienced player.

Overall, despite the interest and potential of Leny Yoro, the reported asking price seems too steep for Manchester City and is not justifiable given the club’s current squad and needs.
