Manchester City is considering adding another South American player to their roster, continuing their trend of signing young talent from the region. This comes just after the recent transfer of Claudio Echeverri for an initial £12.5 million, beating out competition from Barcelona and Chelsea.
Echeverri, an 18-year-old talent from River Plate, will remain on loan until at least December 2024 as he looks to make an impact at the Etihad Stadium. His signing follows a line of South American players, including Julian Alvarez, Gabriel Jesus, Maximo Perrone, and the upcoming transfer of Brazilian teenager Savio.
Savio is set to be Manchester City’s first signing of the summer, with the club securing the winger as a result of significant transfer interest. Additionally, midfielder Ezequiel Fernández of Boca Juniors is reportedly a new target for the City Football Group.
According to journalist Jonathan Riniti, Girona, a sister club of Manchester City, is interested in signing the 21-year-old central midfielder, with scouts having been following and analyzing him for some time. The potential cost for Fernández is reported to be $15 million, with the possibility of a $20 million release clause being inserted by Boca.
If signed, Fernández could join the CFG network, giving him the opportunity to play for multiple clubs, including Girona or Manchester City. He has made 43 appearances during the 2022/23 campaign, registering two assists across all competitions. This potential signing would continue Manchester City’s strategy of investing in young South American talent.
