Manchester City were offered the chance to sign David Alaba as part of a swap deal with Bayern Munich for Leroy Sane, German newspaper Bild reports.
The 24-year-old will only have 12 months left to run on his existing city deal in the summer and Pep Guardiola’s side will cash in if new terms cannot be agreed.
Bayern are the frontrunners to sign Sane if he leaves City and have used the downtime in football to work on a potential deal for the winger.
According to German newspaper Bild, Alaba’s new agent Pini Zahavi has suggested including the defender in any deal for Sane.
The report has indicated that both clubs were considering the idea of the swap, both players have contracts until 2021 and would fill a position of need in both sides, but it sounds like the Austrian wasn’t interested.
Alaba was a key player under Guardiola during his three years at Bayern and has struggled to maintain the same form since the Spaniard’s departure.
Neither Alaba or his agent had any interest in making the move to the Premier League, with the left back preferring a move to either Real Madrid or Barcelona
It’s clear that Leroy Sane could do with a move away from Man City while David Alaba has reached a point where a fresh start might do him good.
However, City have knocked back the proposal and will likely only accept cash if they are forced to sell Sane.
