Manchester City, typically known for their big-money signings, have only made one purchase so far in this year’s transfer window, acquiring Brazilian prospect Savinho for £20m. Despite this, the Blues are still early frontrunners in the Premier League predictions, coming off a successful season where they secured their fourth consecutive league title.
Looking back at previous years, Manchester City has fluctuated in terms of transfer expenditure. In the 2023/24 season, the club spent a total of £220m on new additions, ranking third in the league. Despite some disappointments, such as a Champions League quarterfinal loss to Real Madrid, the team managed to maintain success with a Premier League win.
In the 2021/22 season, Manchester City spent the third-highest amount in the league on players, achieving another Premier League title with successful signings like Jack Grealish and Julian Alvarez. Similarly, in the 2020/21 season, despite global events affecting spending, the club still managed to secure the second-highest transfer bill in the league and ultimately won the Premier League title.
