Manchester City may need to send one of their highly-rated players, Claudio Echeverri, on loan to a La Liga club due to UEFA Champions League rules after Girona’s qualification for the competition. Echeverri, an 18-year-old playmaker from Argentina, signed a contract with Manchester City in January and is currently on loan at River Plate until 2024.
Initially, there were speculations that Echeverri could be loaned to City Football Group’s Girona in La Liga for his development. However, due to UEFA regulations, the loan move to Girona is no longer a possibility, and Echeverri is now expected to be loaned to another La Liga side for two to three seasons before potentially playing for Manchester City.
Potential destinations for Echeverri’s loan spell include Real Sociedad, Real Betis, and UD Las Palmas in La Liga. Real Betis, having secured a spot in the UEFA Europa League qualifying rounds, seems like a strong option for the young Argentine’s development, while UD Las Palmas is known for nurturing rising talents like Pedri, who now plays for FC Barcelona. Manchester City will likely make an informed decision on where Echeverri can best further his game time and adapt to European football.
