Manchester City lose place as highest revenue generating football club in Deloitte league

Real Madrid has claimed the top spot in the 2024 Deloitte Money League, surpassing Manchester City as the highest revenue-generating football club in the world. The total revenues for the top-20 clubs have seen a 14% increase, reaching a record €10.5 billion, with commercial and matchday revenues hitting new highs at €4.4 billion and €1.9 billion, respectively.

Commercial revenue has now become the largest income stream, overtaking broadcast revenue for the first time since 2015/16, excluding the Covid-19 impacted 2019/20 season. This shift is reflected in the fact that 17 of the top-20 clubs reported a year-on-year increase in commercial revenue.

Broadcast income has also seen a rise, albeit a more modest 5% increase to €4.2 billion, largely due to the 2022/23 season falling within existing domestic broadcast cycles. On average, the 20 clubs had an average revenue of more than €500 million.

According to Deloitte’s analysis, Real Madrid has surpassed Manchester City as the highest revenue-generating football club, with a record revenue of €831 million. Despite also achieving a record figure of €826 million, Manchester City has dropped to second place in the rankings.
