Manchester City’s Rodri was charged by UEFA for chanting ‘Gibraltar is Spanish’ during Spain’s European Championship celebrations, which was called deeply offensive by the Gibraltar Football Association. Manchester City is hopeful that any potential ban issued to Rodri will not impact their season.
UEFA charged Rodri and Alvaro Morata under Article 11 of its disciplinary code for violating decent conduct rules and bringing the sport into disrepute. Manchester City sources have expressed their thoughts on the situation, hoping that any ban on Rodri will not affect their Champions League campaign.
Manchester City will be participating in UEFA’s newly-expanded Champions League format, which includes a 36-team league stage where the top eight teams advance directly to the round of 16. The competition will follow a new scheduling format, with Matchday 1 set for September 2024 and the league stage to continue until January 2025.
