Manchester City have reportedly made a ‘concrete’ move for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte. The player is currently on Copa America duty with Uruguay and scored the winning penalty in the quarter-final shootout against Brazil. Despite a lacklustre 2023/24 campaign with PSG, City have made an approach for Ugarte, although they face competition from Manchester United and Barcelona.

City could use Ugarte as cover for holding midfielder Rodri, who has played a lot of football recently. With Mateo Kovacic and John Stones as potential options in that position, Ugarte would provide the team with another out-and-out holding midfielder. Known for his ball-winning abilities, Ugarte could be a valuable addition to the squad, especially after target Bruno Guimaraes’ release clause expired.

Having played with current City midfielder Matheus Nunes at Sporting CP, Ugarte is familiar with the club and could offer a different option in midfield. Despite interest from other clubs, City are looking to secure a deal for Ugarte as they aim to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming season. Pep Guardiola will be hoping to maintain the team’s success and stay on top in the Premier League.
