Manchester City had previously considered signing Lucas Paquetá last summer but had concerns about off-field issues with the West Ham United player. However, the attacking midfielder is now back on City’s radar, with reports suggesting that personal terms have been agreed upon. The club is now focused on negotiating a deal with West Ham, as they aim to avoid triggering Paquetá’s high release clause of £85m.

Manchester City is working to lower the price for Paquetá, despite his long contract with West Ham lasting until 2027. The club is reportedly in discussions with the London side to find a mutually agreeable deal. While activating the player’s release clause remains an option of last resort for City, they are hopeful that negotiations will lead to a more favorable agreement.

Although the operation to sign Paquetá is complex, Manchester City is committed to making the deal happen. The club sees the Brazilian midfielder as a priority target for Pep Guardiola’s side and is actively pursuing negotiations with West Ham to secure his transfer. The outcome of the discussions will determine whether City will meet the release clause or reach a compromise with West Ham.
