Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club is ready to explore all avenues in order to keep Fernandinho at the club beyond this season.
An indisputable fact remains that ever since Fernandinho’s arrival at Manchester City in 2013, the Brazilian has rightly etched his name as one of the Premier League’s greatest ever defensive midfielders.
The 36-year-old, who has spent the last eight and a half years with the Citizens, signed a one-year contract extension in the summer, which is due to expire in June 2022.
While the ageing midfielder may be past his unparalleled best, he continues to remain a stellar operator, as showcased by his dominant display at Carrow Road last weekend.
According to The National Sport, With less than six months left on his existing deal at the Etihad Stadium, Pep Guardiola’s side are ready to explore all avenues in order to keep Fernandinho at the club beyond this season.
The report claims Playing or coaching options, possibly both, will be on the table when the time comes to open talks with the former Shakhtar Donetsk.
The report adds that Man City are aware of the influence Fernandinho wields in the dressing room and with youngsters set to either continue with/join the squad next season, they understand his welcoming ear/calm manner would be invaluable to Pep Guardiola and his staff.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
Respectfully, it’s time to let him go. Move him to a coaching role if you have to, but he should be nowhere near the squad. https://t.co/7gaaUexQC5

If it’s a possibility it would be crazy not too.. he was phenomenal at the weekend. He defies all logic

Couching role would be perfect, afraid next year might be too far with the speed the games are played at now but his mental understanding of the game is second to none and would be a great member of a coaching team.
